An Overview of Ancillary Relief Services
At the same time as the divorce/ dissolution is going through we try and deal with the financial issues arising from it. this is known as Ancillary Relief, or financial resolution.
Where possible we try to negotiate with the other person to get an agreement. If this is not possible then the next step is mediation.
As from the 22nd April 2014 if you want to apply for a court order you MUST attend a Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM), if you do not do so the court will not progress your application, and tell you to go to it. Likewise your opponent should attend a meeting, and again if they do not do so the Court can adjourn the application to give them time to do so. If they refuse the application will proceed.
At each hearing the court will consider whether to send you to mediation.
