As you get older you may wish to appoint a friend of family member to look after your finances, and a lasting power of attorney will enable you to achieve this. once created a lasting power of attorney will continue even in the unfortunate event of loss of mental capacity. In such a case you will have the security of knowing that your affairs are in safe and chosen hands. There are two types of lasting power of attorney:
Property and Financial Affairs:
Very often people find it convenient for someone to deal with the pension authorities, banks and other financial institutions on their behalf and generally deal with their property money and related affairs. This document enables you to do so. Should you so choose, it may be used by your attorneys, even if you still have mental capacity.
Health & Welfare:
This enables your attorneys to make decisions about your health and personal welfare for when you are unable to make such decisions. This can only be used by your attorneys should you become mentally incapable.
